Gilroy Typeface Family

Gilroy Typeface Family

We haven't posted about some free fonts in quite a while. We used to have a day of the week to offer some nice free findings in terms of fonts but it was getting difficult to find beautiful and worth sharing material. Today I'd love to write about the Gilroy Typefamily by Radomir Tinkov and also to say that there's some free surprises in the end of the post. Gilroy is a modern sans serif with a geometric touch. An older brother of the original Qanelas font family. It comes in 20 weights, 10 uprights and its matching italics. The Light & ExtraBold weights are free of charge, so you can use them to your heart’s content. Designed with powerful opentype features in mind. Each weight includes extended language support (+ Cyrillic), fractions, tabular figures, arrows, ligatures and more. Perfectly suited for graphic design and any display use. It could easily work for web, signage, corporate as well as for editorial design. Download for free About Radomir Tinkov Radomir Tinkov is Typeface & Graphic Designer from Sofia, Bulgaria. To view some of the summer blockbusters like Captain America: Civil War from the Marvel Universe. Coming from this Universe, it's always interesting to see how artists create/make and just being inspired based on these movies. Liberty Market Murals

Liberty Market Murals

Our good friend Ben Johnston always have been making beautiful murals for quite some time now. Big or small, it's always being an impressive process and really inspiring for us. Also Ben always take the time to have a proper setup so he can share his behind-the-scenes which fit perfectly with this typographic style. We are sharing today his latest work at the Liberty Market located in Downtown, Toronto of Canada. Lifetime Development Inc. presented Ben Johnston with the opportunity to create and paint two murals on the face of the Liberty Market Building, a hallmark structure in Toronto’s Liberty Village. From concept to creation, the verbiage and aesthetic of each piece was selected to pay homage to the urban revitalization of this formerly industrial hub, turned bustling community. Each mural was designed to both stand-alone and work in conjunction with the other, using bold, impactful typography intended to bring the sentiments to life. “Hustle” speaks to the entrepreneurial spirit and vibrancy of those who work and play in Liberty Village. While “Love Liberty” captures the magnetism, history and resounding sense of pride that has grown within the community throughout it’s development. About Ben Johnston Ben is a self-taught designer, letterer & illustrator from Cape Town, currently based in Toronto, Canada. With his kickass talent, he had the opportunity to work with brands like: Disney, Virgin, Audi, Saatch & Saatchi and just to name a few. More information via his Behance.

Adobe Experience Artwork from Cannes Lions 2016

We are showcasing this bold piece of commissioned typography artwork by freelance graphic designer Mario De Meyer for Adobe's 'Experience' seminar at the Cannes Lions Festival 2016. The result is really fantastic at creating an illusion with the word: Experience, especially knowingly having as speaker guest the famous Stefan Sagmeister. Another thing that we do enjoy is that little BTS gif showing the process behind the piece which is always helpful to learn and get inspired from. Superb work! I was commissioned by Adobe to make a visual for the 'Experience' seminar at the Cannes Lions Festival 2016. 'Experience' is a seminar which will explore how risk-taking, fighting against industry norms and breaking out of silos are critical to delivering breakthrough experiences. Equally, it will discuss what new types of content, design and experiences are shaping our future and culture, as well as how agencies can adapt to this approach and partner better with clients to create impact. About Mario De Meyer Mario is a freelance graphic designer currently based in Ghent, Belgium. Capital Magazine Design

Capital Magazine Design

The Socio Design folks keep delivering incredible work. We have featured some of their projects but they always share something new that is worth sharing here on Abduzeedo. The project we want to highlight is the Capital Magazine. They worked on the editorial design as well the typography for this quarterly newspaper. The result is super elegant and of course inspiring. Capital is a quarterly newspaper from Hedeker that reviews and summarizes the behaviors of financial markets from the previous 3 months. With a sparing use of images, the design instead adopts a typographic approach – picking out key points within the content and delivering them with greater impact. Each issue is printed on a different paper stock relating to the time of year it is printed. Impressive Artworks by Yulia Brodskaya

Back in 2010 we showcased Yulia's work here for the first time. And of course we are past due for an update of her astonishing pieces. This is why today we will show you some of Yulia's latest artworks. Her talent of transforming paper into art is superb, take a look. Since 2010 she added lots of inspiring pieces to her portfolio, so make sure to head to her website to check the entire collection. Enjoy! Yulia Brodskaya is a highly regarded paper artist and illustrator. She uses two simple materials-paper and glue, and a simple technique that involves the placement of carefully cut and bent strips of paper - to make lush, vibrant, three-dimensional paper artworks. She started working as a graphic designer and illustrator in 2006, however quickly abandoned the computer programs in favour of paper art: "Paper always held a special fascination for me. I've tried many deferent methods and techniques of working with it, until I found the way that has turned out to be 'the one' for me: now I draw with paper instead of on it". Case Study: Fazer

Case Study: Fazer

It's always incredible to see designers pushing the envelope from time to time. Being a fan of 3D works is one thing but the folks from Snask went beyond even more with a summer campaign for Fazer. Taking their motto of being "unconventional" to a whole new level especially when the client brief is simply and as I quote: "...make drop dead gorgeous handmade typography". Please enjoy this stunning case study. The campaign was communicated in Finnish. Here at Snask we´re Swedes, meaning that we aren't 100% sure what it says in each piece. But what we are 100% confident about, is that design wise, it looks fantastic. It´s almost perfection. All props and typography were handmade by Snask in our studio in Stockholm. In the end, we helped out creating still life photography and stop motion, and the material was used in tv, social media, point of sales and retail. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); About Snask Snask is Not-your-typical agency currently based in Stockholm, Sweden. Abstract ABC

Abstract ABC

Being abstract is somehow part of each one of us, whatever you're an artist, designer, developer or even a QA tester. We work in the universe of art and we gotta find the time and ways to express ourselves. We all need or get the urge of creating/making in our free space. Some of us will design something, take photos, practice lettering or like Jim LePage will paint. We are featuring Jim's and Max's work with their Abstract ABC series. Abstract painting provides a creative escape for me. I love the exploration of color and texture and how the mix of those can evoke different types of feelings and ideas. I experiment with different paints, mediums and techniques and enjoy the surprises that come from seeing them interact in new ways. Hand Lettering Overdose

Hand Lettering Overdose

If there's one thing I suck big time at is hand writing. Despite calligraphy classes, a lot of work I never got to a point that I felt comfortable. That is not that case of Mateusz Witczak. The intricate details and craft is quite amazing and definitely needed to be shared here on ABDZ Mateusz is a self-taught lettering artist, graphic designer currently living in Warsaw, Poland. Typography Experiment by Carlos de Toro

Typography Experiment by Carlos de Toro

Carlos de Toro share a quite interesting project on his Behance page, he played with the idea of overlapping different designs to create a new typography style from it. Escher, and because of that we of course are sharing it here on ABDZ Work around the idea of layered typefaces and the overlapping of different designs to form a new one. Alphabet Illustrations

Alphabet Illustrations

We posted about the work of Flavio Montiel a few times here on ABDZ and he always keep surprising us. I saw that he has been doing a daily series on Dribbble of beautiful compositions of the alphabet letters. He is already on the letter M so we decided that it should be featured here on ABDZ Flavio Montiel, is an Art Director and 3D Artist based in São Paulo, Brazil. After 4 years working as an Art Director for Harley-Davidson, he quit his job and started his own studio called Bodi Multimedia, which is more focused on web. It was around that time he realized that he couldn’t hold back his love for illustration anymore and started to work as freelance illustrator as well. 3D for me was always more like a hobby and i’ve been learning it for about 10 years. Even though i’ve worked for a few agencies and a very wide range of clients as a Designer and Art Director, and even as a freelancer developer, 3D was always with me on those moments when you want to create something cool from the top of your head, without the pressure of it being a paid job, nothing more. Typography in Motion

Typography in Motion

I am always amazed to see the evolution of the design community and the adoption to new styles and techniques. Motion design seems to be taking over, not only in the design industry, but everywhere. Apps like Snapchat are proof to this evolution and it gives a glimpse of a day where no more static images will be seen. Until then I hope we find a better format than GIF. That said, for this post I want to share some beautiful examples of typography in motion created by Starov Evgeniy and Dubnichenko Alexey. The main idea of this collection is to show new vision of using lettering logos combining animation and calligraphy. Each of these works have their own style and animation details so they can be placed in any kind of media space and become a part of the branding.
